Last year as room mom of Summer’s preschool class I made a massive blunder and broke the cardinal rule for any parent – I brought a glass food storage container into the classroom. If you are a parent who brings classroom snacks believe me when I tell you I know firsthand exactly why glass containers, moms and little kids don’t mix. Imagine me holding a 1 year old, a dozen preschoolers at my feet and a shattered 15inch glass container in little pieces all around us. Not only was the classroom snack entirely destroyed and filled with glass pieces, but the classroom had to be closed off and thoroughly cleaned. That evening after lamenting to my husband he set out to find an alternative. That’s how I met my new leak proof and shatter proof 10 pc Rubbermaid® BRILLIANCE™ storage containers that I can use for everyday and even for more special occasions.
The Rubbermaid® BRILLIANCE™ food storage containers work really well for my mom lifestyle. This year in particular, I’ve been using my BRILLIANCE™ containers more than before. At the start of the year I resolved, much like the rest of us, to get back into my healthier habits. With my kids only 18 months apart I felt like I had lost the time and energy to really focus on my fitness. With a new house with a kitchen that desperately needed a remodel we found ourselves eating out a lot. We felt like it saved us the headache of cooking and watching the kids and in truth, was something I almost viewed as a reward for surviving my day. Needless to say, it was a cycle I really wanted to break this year and I’ve been able to do so with the help of my trusty BRILLIANCE™ containers.
Rubbermaid® BRILLIANCE™ Life Hack for Active Moms
Here is my really basic system to help stay on track with eating more homemade food and resisting the urge to eat out.
I knew I needed to find a way to have our lunch prepped and ready to go each morning. That way, I am out with the kids at the park I wont get caught in my old trap of staying too long, getting too hungry and then just giving in to eating out.
I always keep a set of 10 pc BRILLIANCE™ set clean and ready to fill when we are done with dinner. I fill the leftovers into containers for me and Ryan and then fill the other so we all have a completely planned lunch. I always want a salad, so I prep my salad at night (dressing on the side) so that when I’m tired in the morning or we’re running late I don’t have to think twice about trying to get any of the food sorted.
The reason these fit in so well with our life is that they are really simply and efficiently designed. I know that as soon as I click them closed they are going to be 100% Leak Proof. That means when the wagon takes a tumble or our beach bag falls out the back of the car, I never have to worry about leaks all over our bag or lunch being ruined. I even use the little containers and put them in my Louis when we run errands, I trust them that much!
Once we’re done with our picnic, I don’t have to worry about if I accidentally forget to clean them out right away. They are stain and odor resistance so even when we’re packing last night’s spaghetti sauce, I know that it’s not going to leave the container stained or smelly.
