To save new mom’s time and money, I’ve compiled a list of the top 3 designer bags that can double as a diaper bag. Don’t waste $200+ on a diaper bag that is only going to serve you for a small window of your life. Trust me, you won’t need this bag for more than a year or so. Invest your money into a beautiful designer bag and let it double as a diaper bag for the few years you need one.
The Backstory
When I was pregnant for the first time I remember spending hours on my phone shopping diaper bags. For whatever reason I had decided that this bag was an extension of my personal style. With my first child, I had a collection of diaper bags. However, after a couple of months these bags were getting used less and less. A few month after that they were retired (and lost in a move) and I was instead throwing baby stuff in a Lululemon shopping bag and stuffing it inside my Louis Vuitton Neverfull. This worked a million times better for me and was a diaper bag solution that I have even been able to maintain even with two kids.
Mom gets to carry her designer handbag and the kids get a reusable, just throw it away if you have to, bag slipped inside her tote. Win-win for everyone!
Top 3 Designer Bags that Double as a Diaper Bag
Finding the gorgeous designer bag is easy, but finding one that can replace all the other mommy bags and withstand your new lifestyle is challenging. You don’t want to guess wrong, have a $1,000 purse that you swore to your spouse would be your everybag, but be struggling to make it work with mommyhood. I’ve taken one for the team and used designer bags for diaper bags for years, completely selflessly of course so that I could let fashionable moms everywhere know what is going to work!

Louis Vuitton: Neverfull MM
This is my current bag of choice and I’ve carried it pretty consistently for 2-3 years (I have a 2.5 year old and a 11 month old at the time of this post). It goes with everything, the red lining is to die for and it has a wide opening so you can always see straight to the bottom unlike a Speedy where you almost want a flashlight to look inside and find things. The sides of the bag can be pulled in for when you don’t have kids stuff with you and then opened again when you need the extra space.
Louis Vuitton is actually celebrating the Neverfull this season and offering the Monogrammed Neverfull with a Legos in my Louis orange interior lining and a matching inside removable pouch. I’m going to be orange with envy the first time I see this bag out to lunch on anyone’s shoulder who isn’t me!
Interested in trying out the Neverfull. You can rent one here..

Goyard: Marquises
Goyard is a lesser known luxury brand if you are looking for something less for the masses that Louis Vuitton. Unless you collect trunks like me, most women haven’t heard of them. Recently their Saint Louis bag has become widely popular. It looks like a Neverfull but is offered in a variety of colors. It didn’t make my cut because that bag is mass produced and I think the quality suffers as a result. I’ve seen the ends get frayed and it subjected to wear that I don’t think is acceptable for a bag over $1,000. You can bet I would put mine through the ringer as handbag / diaperbag.
The Marquises bag has the very on trend look of the Saint Louis but has more structure and better construction. Unlike the Neverfull it has the ability to close so whatever you are carrying inside of it is concealed. Big plus if your purse is a mess like mine and subject to getting dumped out by little ones.

Longchamp: Le Pliage
I’m using the term “designer” a little loosely on this one but want to give a more price conscious option that’s also a less visually branded.
In all honesty, I hated this bag until I owned one. I received mine as a gift and was like “oh great, this bag.” But then I started using it out of obligation which slowly lead to me using it all the time for everything and telling everyone it’s the best bag ever!
This is a great bag for the mom who would be willing to give up her purse and throw her wallet, keys, phone and lipstick in with the kids stuff. It’s also a fantastic travel bag because it folds up super small and flat. The bag is waterproof which is a huge plus for anyone, Mom or not. The quality is great for the price and if you are warming up to the designer bag game, this is a perfect bridge bag.

Check out this generic version that’s only $15 on Amazon.
Summary
Any of these bags would be a great buy for fashionable women everywhere. With lots of room, good construction, and the quality you would expect from luxury brands, these bags won’t disappoint. For a new Mom, these timeless styles will let you use the bags for decades. Who knows, maybe in 30 years I’ll be giving Summer by Louis Vuitton Neverfull at her baby shower telling all her friends about how I used it when she was first born and now she can schlep all her baby stuff around in it too.

I love this post. Congratulations. I have Louis Vuitton Monogram and I always wear it with my babies. Best regards from Barcelone (Spain)
Thanks Maria!
[…] New Balance are still warm and cozy and should replace anytime you are inclined to wear Uggs out of the house. Look how well they finish this look along with that stylish Goyard bag (my top pick for designer bags that double as diaper bags). […]
How about the Louis totally mm as a diaper bag?
Ginny – that is a great one to add to the list too!
I can’t decide between the Neverfull GM and the Siena GM. In your opinion which would you recommend for a diaper bag and purse! I typically go for crossbody styles in my bags but I’m affraid the Siena isn’t spacious enough especially where we’re planning on more children!
Amie I totally missed your comment, so sorry! I definitely say Neverfull! I’m biased because that’s what I have but it’s so spacious and I like being able to easily pull things out without unearthing everything from the bottom of my bag just to find a pacifier for a crying baby. Neverfull is very easy access under pressure:)
